Stop Mixing Business With Pleasure, Start Mixing Virtual Conferences With Sense

In a recent post on “Talking Video” Tsahi discussed a recent Forbes Insights study, that stated that “Business Executives Prefer Face-to-Face Meetings over Virtual Contact“. While Tsahi discussed why video conferencing is a legitimate alternative, I took the time to read carefully the study and its results, specifically these: 58% of the respondents said they were travelling for business less today than before the recession (January 2008); 34% indicated they were travelling much less frequently. 59% of (read more...)

We Really Don’t Need Another World Crisis

As part of my sisyphic effort to stay updated with the latest in the video conferencing market, I’m using various tools to aggregate everything and anything that concerns this technology, this industry. The most talked-about topic in the many blogs, PRs and presentations I have been reading ever since I joined this industry is, without a doubt, the benefits of video conferencing. Our industry is preaching video conferencing as a communication means for more than a decade, in an attempt (read more...)

Being Somewhat Of A Green Prophet

Video conferencing has long been considered a “green” technology. As I am all for “green”, and I believe we all should be, I have covered the “green” aspects of this technology here, and I try to “preach” as much as I can that it shouldn’t be hard being green. “The Green Prophet” is an environment news and destination site reporting on Israel and the Middle East. It covers cleantech and green living solutions, as well as other green living issues. With a slogan like “The Middle East has never been greener” I couldn’t resist being somewhat of a green prophet, and so I wrote a guest post there about the green aspects of video conferencing. My bottom line: Hard times call for hard measures. And so video conferencing should be regarded as a “must have”, not as “nice to have”, as the crisis we are trying to handle is one that we MUST solve. You can read the entire post here. Comments, there and here, are most welcome.

IT is not that easy being green. But it should

Gartner has released its latest Hype Cycle Research Report: Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies 2008. Of the 27 technologies they list as “emerging” over the next few years, Green IT, Video TelePresence and Cloud Computing are at the “Peak of Inflated Expectations” and should be adopted, according to Gartner, in 2-5 years. Hype Cycle for 2008. If you compare the Hype Cycle for 2008 with that of 2007, you can see that TelePresence is making its way through the (read more...)

The “green piece” in RADVISION logo (or: Earth Hour after-thoughts)

Last Thursday (27.3) I was passing through the center of Tel-Aviv which was in the midst of preparations for “Earth Hour Tel-Aviv“. If you missed the much-publicized blackout – when cities around the world turned off the lights in homes and offices to inspire action regarding climate change – I can tell you that the view (as seen on TV) was astounding. The Earth Hour campaign video The “Earth Hour” campaign is very popular. However what I was thinking (read more...)
