Global Projects, Global Communication

My good friend Einat has recently taken a new role here in RADVISION, managing an EU funded project, which RADVISION takes part in (Sorry, but details will remain disclosed for the time being). This project does not only include participating companies from all over Europe, but it spans over 3 development centers in RADVISION: in Tel-Aviv (Israel), New Jersey and New Hampshire (US). RADVISION’s development centers world-wide, taken from the company calendar chart 2009. Projects like that are not (read more...)

A Year Has Passed

“…a year has passed since I wrote my note But I should have known this right from the start…” (Message in a Bottle) 30 years ago, The Police released “Message in a Bottle” as a single from their second album, Reggate de Blanc. The song tells the story of an island castaway (long before Tom Hanks or Lost), sending out a message in a bottle to seek help, only to realize later that there are many people like him (read more...)

(Same)Time for High Definition

You already know I am a big fan of desktop video conferencing, and of RADVISION’s High Definition Scopia Desktop in particular.  A month ago, in Lotusphere 2009. Among the recent exciting announcements, RADVISION unveiled a unique plug-in for IBM Lotus Sametime, based on Scopia Desktop, which seamlessly adds high definition video conferencing to the Sametime environment. Dvir Reznik, who works for IBM Software Group, has a very interesting blog about collaboration, participation and innovation, or what he calls “Enterprise 2.0″. Dvir just published a guest post I’ve written for his blog about  the great synergy between Scopia Desktop and Lotus Sametime, which explains more about the technical side of this cooperation, as well as showcases what desktop video conferencing can bring to an already successful  unified communication suite.

Video Conferencing Awaits The Third Wave

Everyone seems to be talking about Nick Carr’s essay “Is Google Making Us Stupid?“. I have an answer I strongly believe in (later – I promise!), but what troubles me more is a related question I hear often – “Is Video Conferencing Making Us Less Communicative?“. The essential theme in Nick’s essay, in case you haven’t read it or his new book (which the essay is built on), is that technologies change us, often in ways we can neither anticipate (read more...)

Desktop Conferencing That Crosses The (Fire)walls – A Teleworker’s Dream

Desktop video conferencing is considered to be a key element in a true virtual working place. As millions of workers are expected to telework by 2010, there’s a growing need to support desktop video conferencing from outside of the enterprise secured LAN. A Teleworker’s Dream (CC) VoIP and firewalls – a must-solve problem I have already mentioned RADVISION’s desktop client, Scopia Desktop, as it is used by all RADVISION employees for daily video conferences. Scopia Desktop enables any member (read more...)

With John the Plumber Working On the Pipes, Video Conferencing Will Flow

In a recent post here Ariel cautioned that the world is going High Def and bandwidth is becoming a valuable asset. He was talking about the world of visual communication, but this is true (and maybe more relevant) for the consumer and entertainment markets as well. It seems that all around us the need for bandwidth is growing. This leads one to wonder whether the infrastructure we currently have and the one we’re building for the future will be sufficient. (read more...)

High Definition Desktop Video – Just Try It!

I have been talking and writing a lot about Video Conferencing since I started working for RADVISION. I have to admit, in the past I wasn’t sure what form would the personal video conferencing endpoint have, but lately the answer is literally right in front of you: Desktop Video Conferencing. If you haven’t heard, Desktop Video Conferencing is happening, and although there is always room for more innovation, the recent release of Scopia Desktop, RADVISION’s desktop video client, is promising (read more...)

A Small Step For Your IT Department, a BIG Step To Your Organization

Unified Communication (UC) is one of the hottest buzz words in the IT market, potentially in the whole tech market. Ask a few people what UC is, and you’ll be sure to get various answers. Still, most will agree, it involves uniting existing communication systems and tools (phone system, internet) with more advanced productivity and communication tools (such as instant messaging, video conferencing, and web collaboration) to deliver a complete solution. Bottom line – UC is aimed at creating adaptive (read more...)
