Talkin’ About Resolution

I had this post in the oven for a while now. And when I say “oven” I mean the area where posts are written, in the deep dark areas of my mind. I’ve been waiting for a chance to bring it to light, an excuse to come forward and say it out loud: IT AIN’T ABOUT THE RESOLUTION! But then came this innocent-looking-yet-evil-as-usual comic strip from my favorite artist, Randall Munroe aka xkcd, and I thought: There we go. Here’s (read more...)

Bringing Researchers Together, Kiwi Style

Some two years ago I wrote about the 21st learning experience, or at least how I think it should be. Now I haven’t been a student for a long time, but still all around me students attend physical classes, limited to the teachers that are available physically in campus, limited to the availability of classes, and limited to teaching technologies which exist for a long time. Too long maybe. But there’s another side to the academic sector where visual communications (read more...)

Open, Mr. Jobs? By All Means!

Last week I tried to share with you my disappointment with FaceTime, the video calling service Apple has just announced. You have to admit – If there’s one thing Apple does brilliantly is marketing. And so, Steve Jobs chose to tackle, hands-on, the one main obstacle that he has to know (because he’s such a great professional) can jeopardize the whole FaceTime dream – interoperability. What did Steve do? First of all, he dazzled us with a BIG, fat “OPEN” (read more...)

The Greatest Thing Since… The Apple Fans’ Only Dating Service

Yes, this is an(other) iPhone4 post. Yes, like everyone else I was following Steve Jobs’ keynote at WWDC. Yes, the iPhone4 seems to be a very interesting evolution for smartphones. Yes, Apple make the greatest marketing campaigns in the world. iPhone4 Commercial, directed by Sam Mendes But with all due respect to Steve Almighty, and the long-awaited iPhone4, I have to admit I was far from impressed with the “one more thing…” presented last week – video calling. Sure, (read more...)

Executive Quality, Personal Solution

When we announced, a year ago, the VC240, our jointly developed desktop video conferencing solution, it was a revolution. It was a first-of-its-kind “executive desktop” system for the average employee. Not that it isn’t good enough for the executives, but as I keep saying here – if we want to make video conferencing happen, we have to deploy video conferencing endpoints on every desk. And the VC240 can make this a reality. And indeed the VC240 is a success. Everywhere (read more...)

It’s All Happening (At InfoComm 2010)

InfoComm is the largest and most comprehensive pro-AV event in the world. And it seems like the InfoComm2010 that begins today in Las Vegas would be the biggest of them all, with more than 32,000 professionals and more than 900 exhibitors. As with every year, RADVISION will be exhibiting the latest in its product lines at InfoComm, and this year it is packed with great innovative offerings and exciting new technologies, most of which I tried to cover in my (read more...)

Small and Medium Businesses, One Great Solution

My post 2 weeks ago about the need for a real video conferencing solution for SMBs was very popular. I think that the need for our industry to come up with a true solution for small and medium enterprises should be a top priority, if we want visual communications to become a viable means of communication. In my post I stated what is expected from a real SMB solution: It should be easy – easy to deploy, to (read more...)

Advanced Data Collaboration Is Finally Here

Video conferencing is an evolving technology. Although its roots were planted way back in the 60s, it has gone through its share of evolution to the point where – today – it is starting to become a real, everyday means of communication. As I pointed out 2 weeks ago, while video and audio have evolved considerably, collaboration has not. And it’s a shame because what people really want is the ability “to present content to the rest of the conference (read more...)

Telepresence Interoperability – Right Here, Right Now

Two weeks ago Tsahi Levent-Levi wrote on NoJitter that the Cisco Telepresence Interoperability Protocol (TIP) is just the TIP of the iceberg – a nice initiative and a positive step forward, but not a real, complete solution. You can debate why Cisco suddenly decided to “play nice” and why now. But the fact remains – The Telepresence Strategy is flawed, as Andrew Davis from Wainhouse Research has been saying for a while (and he’s not alone). This week Eric Krapf, (read more...)
